Have We Reached The Time of Flying Cars?

Here it is. The Dutch-made flying car that is also considered a "street-legal airplane." According to its designers, it "drives like a sports car" and has "the agility of a motorcycle". It can even drive up to 750 miles on a tank of ordinary gasoline. I think we've hit the WOW factor!

How does it fly? It takes flight by using an auto-rotating rotor and forward speed that's produced by a foldable push propeller on the back. What's neat is whenever you hit the road (literally), the rotor and propeller are tucked away.

How much do you think something like this costs? My coworker guessed $4 million while I took a guess of $1 million. To our surprise, it's not that expensive with a $279,000 price tag. The company is already advertising that they will accept $10,000 down payments. Although this flying car has successfully completed its maiden flight, it still has some hurdles to go through before it goes for sale in the U.S, Europe, and other markets. Terrafugia said the flying car will be released by the end of 2012 in Denmark. The company is now "inviting investors to join them in creating the future."

In case you're in the New York area, stop by the New York Auto Show on April 15th and check out the Terrafugia Transition flying car.
